Recommendations
Colonial Williamsburg is a beautifully preserved 18th-century town. Stroll the cobblestone streets, wander through gardens, take a horse-drawn carriage ride, explore the Governor’s Palace, pop into a museum, tavern, live demonstration, or perhaps even a ghost tour for a truly immersive experience. You’ll encounter costumed interpreters (you never do get used to seeing Thomas Jefferson off-duty at the gas station) alongside the Fife and Drum Corps performing traditional Revolutionary War-era music. Events are updated seasonally.

Williamsburg has some incredible restaurants, local breweries, and cafés - Alex Approved. We’ll continue to add to this list! Some of our recommendations:
The Cheese Shop: A local favorite for sandwiches, cheeses, and wines. If you order a sandwich for lunch, make sure to ask for a side of house dressing.
Fat Canary: A fine dining restaurant known for its contemporary American cuisine and extensive wine list.
Christiana Campbell’s Tavern: one of the most famous historic taverns in Colonial Williamsburg, known for its seafood-focused menu and 18th-century dining experience. It was a favorite spot of George Washington, who dined there frequently!
Le Yaca French Restaurant: Offers an authentic French dining experience with a menu that changes seasonally.
Amber Ox Public House: A modern brewpub offering craft beers and a seasonal menu. Make sure to check out their hidden bar, The Study

The Williamsburg Library
1 mile from our wedding venue, the children's section of the Williamsburg Library is practically a small scale Children's Museum fit with a play village and many interactive activities. A perfect stop for toddler-parents after a stroll to coffee.

Jamestown hosts a variety of children’s activities! Kids can climb aboard replicas of the three ships that brought America’s first English settlers, explore a recreated Powhatan village, and watch live demonstrations of 17th-century life. With hands-on exhibits, costumed interpreters, and plenty of space to explore, it’s a perfect way for children to experience history in an engaging way!

The Climbing Tree
Located in Colonial Williamsburg, this tree is the largest Compton Oak in the United States. The trunk is 14 ft in circumference. If I hadn’t climbed ‘the climbing tree’ as a child, I wouldn’t understand the big deal. Don’t ask questions - just trust me. Eat some lunch, go on a walk, and stop by the tree. Kids adore this tree.
